Blog Post #1: My Top Five Sources of News and Information

As a Communication major, I think it's important to stay informed about what is happening in the world and how information is shared with different audiences. Everyone gets their news in different ways, and these are the five sources that I use the most to keep up with current events and topics that interest me.

1. TikTok

TikTok is probably the source I use the most for news and information. I spend a lot of time on the app, and it's usually where I first hear about breaking news, trending topics, and major events. I also enjoy watching true crime content and learning about cases that are being discussed online. Even though I know it's important to double-check information from social media, TikTok is a quick way to stay updated and discover stories I want to learn more about.

2. The New York Times

The New York Times is one of my favorite sources because it provides detailed and trustworthy reporting. As a Communication major, I think it's important to read news from professional journalists and see how stories are covered. I like that articles provide background information and multiple perspectives instead of just short updates. It helps me better understand current events and important issues.

3. Instagram

Website: https://www.instagram.com/

Instagram is another platform I use every day. I follow news organizations, photographers, media companies, and content creators who share information about current events and popular topics. As a Photography minor, I enjoy seeing how images are used to tell stories and capture important moments. Sometimes a single photo can communicate just as much as a written article, which is one reason I enjoy using Instagram as a source of information.

4. Spotify Podcasts

Website: https://open.spotify.com/

I enjoy listening to podcasts because they allow me to stay informed while driving, walking to class, or getting ready for the day. I listen to podcasts about current events, pop culture, and true crime. Podcasts often go into more detail than social media posts, which helps me gain a better understanding of a topic.

5. CNN

Website: https://www.cnn.com/

CNN is a source I use when I want more information about a major story. If I see something on TikTok or Instagram, I often look at CNN to learn more about the facts and details. I like that they provide articles, videos, and live coverage, making it easy to follow important events as they happen.

Conclusion

As a Communication major and Photography minor, I think it's important to get information from a variety of sources. TikTok and Instagram help me stay updated quickly, while The New York Times and CNN provide more in-depth reporting. Spotify podcasts allow me to learn more about topics while I'm busy with school and other activities. Together, these sources help me stay informed and understand how information is communicated to different audiences.
